Course Description

This course will address topics as defining, planning, executing and closing projects. We will introduce an overall framework for managing projects, describe how to set up a project, and provide a forum for sharing practical techniques for managing projects. Several topics are discussed, including how to build a project plan, risk management, issue management, project marketing, communications, quality assurance, project measurements and the psychology of project management.


Course Design

The principles behind the course design hinges on students working with a running project throughout most of the course. Students will be required to work through and produce various project management reports, documents, diagrams and charts representing various phases of a project, much like a Project Manager would in real life production scenarios. These deliverables include a Project Charter, Project Requirements Document, Work Break Down Structure (WBS) detailed project plan , Network Diagram, Gantt Chart, ongoing project control and closeout documentation. In addition, the Summative assignment will help students summarize everything they learned and exercise their communication skills by delivering a Power Point presentation to an “Executive Team.” Students will also research current best practices associated with quality control, such as Six Sigma.

  2. Assess application of modern quality control methods.
  3. Analyze systems with respect to quality, using such tools as Six Sigma, process control, quality function deployment, and reliability

    analysis.

  5. Use modern motivational tools to achieve success with project processes.
